Charitable

Initiate Charitable programs through Unity and Cooperation of members To foster unity, cooperation and mutual support among member-groups by engaging, and empowering diverse Filipino-American individuals and community organizations through sharing of projects and best practices and advocacy of common causes that will redound to the benefit of their constituents.

Initiate events Honoring Outstanding Filipinos in North Texas Develop a mechanism for a comprehensive and unbiased search of outstanding Filipinos residing in North Texas who may or may not be community leaders but have excelled in their respective professions or careers and have brought pride to the Filipino community and the Philippines. To honor these outstanding professionals, senior citizens and youth leaders in appropriate ceremonies and media vehicles.

Invite sponsors to celebrate Important Historical Philippine Holidays. Take the leadership or provide active support for the annual celebration of Philippine Independence Day, Philippine-American Friendship Day, Veterans Day, Bataan Day and other historical Philippine holidays in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General and by marshalling the collective strengths of the different organizations in North Texas, including professional and regional associations, businesses, churches and religious organizations, cultural and educational groups, sports associations and youth groups.

Educational

Youth Development. The Filipino Leaders Filipino Leaders Coalition of North Texas dba FILCON of North Texas will focus on engaging and empowering young Filipino Americans in the Metroplex to build the next generation of community leaders. It will aim to strengthen the personal and professional development of young Filipino Americans through networking, sharing best practices, leadership-building, and mobilizing around issue-based campaigns.

Educate The Community To gain a thorough understanding of the workings of the Filipino community and determine potential areas of conflicts in anticipation of inter-organization or inter-personal problems of community leaders that, if allowed to escalate, could harm the image of the Filipino community in the eyes of the general public. As needed, volunteer members of the Board of Directors could serve as independent and impartial mediators to resolve conflicts between Filipino individuals and/or groups to restore and preserve peace in the community and protect the image of community. Humanitarian

FILCON is organized to be prepared for collective action for addressing the needs of Filipino victims of natural disasters both in the state of Texas and in the Philippines. This would include rapid response to the needs of Filipino families affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and other calamities. The Filipino Leaders Coalition of North Texas dba FILCON would also be prepared to address the concerns of homeless Filipinos in North Texas, and Filipino nationals who are victims of human trafficking and unscrupulous recruiting, as well as physical and mental abuse of young Filipino brides brought here from the Philippines.

Cultural Display

Fostering of Filipino Cultural Heritage and Values To create an awareness of the Filipinos’ rich cultural heritage and values among the youth and among the mainstream communities. This will be done through a cultural education program about the Philippines and Philippine History in the Metroplex schools and through the presentation of Philippine traditions, cultural dances, and music.

Tie-up with National Advocacy Groups that Fight for Filipinos’ rights To support the non-partisan national Filipino groups that have a long legacy of advocating for the rights of Filipinos in America, and a comprehensive vision to unite and amplify the voices of the more than four million Filipinos living in the United States. Recognizing that policies affecting Filipinos and Filipino Americans are made in the U.S. Congress, the North Texas community should join up with national civil rights organizations based in Washington, DC in order to advocate for Filipino causes, e.g., equal treatment and non-discrimination of Filipinos in the workplace, WWII Veterans rights to benefits and family reunification, voting rights, dual citizenship, and many other Filipino causes.
